Print a large poster on your wall this christmas - Rasterbator

rasterbator screenshotPhotos printing can be a problem if you want to print it in poster size. Especially in large poster size. Well, you can do it manually by converting them to vector images using Vector Magic. Enlarge them and send to your local poster print shop for printing. Or you can use the Rasterbator and convert them into tiled photos.

There are 2 versions available on the website. You can do it directly online, provided you have a image/photo under 1mb in size. Or you can download the desktop version and rasterbate any photo you have with not image size limits.

I tried the online version and find it an easy process.

  1. Upload your image (from your desktop or from the web, e.g. Flickr)
  2. Crop and resize the image as necessary. Resizing will determine the number of sheets of paper needed to print out and reconstruct the image.
  3. Choose your dot size. Normally the smaller your dot, the higher resolution you get.
  4. Choose your color mode. Available in black/white, monochromatic and color.
  5. Rasterbate.

One point to take note. When the website is rasterbating your image, Do Not flip to another page or tab. The first time I did it, the process fail because I go to another tab while waiting for the process to finished.

The final product will be a series of pages in PDF format (screenshot above) which you can then print out in borderless format. Reconstruct and mount it on the wall. You will feel a personal satisfaction when you see it on the wall.

This is a worthwhile project especially now in the holiday season. Put a poster of Santa Claus on the wall to entertain your kids. Or even better print a poster of your kid. They will definitely appreciate you for this.
