Blogger.com vs Wordpress.com
What I say here will sound controversial, but I think Blogger is better than Wordpress.com (i have another blog there) for free hosting site at least. This is sort of like the difference between Win XP and Mac OS X
. OSX is all pretty and cool. Plus, it have killer apps like QuickSilver and Aperture. But when you want to do something differently or customize it a bit, it is hysterically limited.
The same could be said of Wordpress.com. Most of the default templates are more beautiful than Blogger’s default templates. Everyday, there are requests made online for Wordpress.com templates to be port to Blogger. Others features I like includes:
- Calender archive
- Categories
- Built-in blog stats
- Able to import links by OPML file
- Akismet
Now, you can build a wonderful blog with these tools, this I have no doubt. But if you want to customize it to add feedburner scripts, Google analytical tools or even your own favicons to your Firefox tab (you can do it here) and other customizing stuff, you can’t. I know there are thousands and one plugins for Wordpress.org. You can do all of the above and more with those plugins. I would consider definitely go with Wordpress.org if and when I go for paid hosting. That’s why I feel Wordpress.com is so inflexible.
Now, good, old, unpretty Blogger may have its quirks and eccentricities (just like Win XP). But if you have any problems, there are always solutions to be found on the net or scripts to help you. The keyword here is flexibility. So what are your views on this topic? Am I too quick to jump the gun on Wordpress.com? Please comment below.
