Play Pacman now!

January 7th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in BlogMunch, flash games

If you are as old as me, you would have remember the times you spend at the local arcade playing games like Asteroids, Hexxagon, Space Invaders, Tetris (who have gone on to superstardom) and of course Pac-Man. Your ghoulish nemesis like Blinky, Pinky, Inkey and Clyde who will chase after you till the end of earth just to hunt you down. Or until you (Pac-Man) gets your super power up and eat them up like tasty chicken wings.

With the release of PAC-MAN Championship Edition™ at the Xbox 360, the Renaissance is complete and now you can compete online with everyone around the world. Till I get my hands on a 360, I will have to make do with the flash version which I have embed on BlogMunch. Enjoy!

And if you think you need help in beating the game of Pac-Man, check out this strategy site for Pac-Man. Very Comprehensive.

Flash Game of the week - Get The Glass

December 2nd, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in flash games

This week I have a special flash game. I am not recommending this flash game based on its gameplay (stupid Hot Pursuit). Though I suspect any boardgame fans will be delighted with this game.

I am recommending Get The Glass (henceforth called GTG) because it is a beautiful and extremely well produced game. The game is produced by the Got Milk? campaign.

The basic premises of GTG is the Adachi crime family is trying to get to Fort Fridge to get the glass. The glass is said to promise unlimited amounts of milk. And why do they need so much milk. Well, it seems they are milk deprived and is suffering from various milk related aliments.

The whole game is played like a board game. There will be a dice on screen where you can click to pick it up and throw it across your screen to roll your dice. You will need to navigate through 5 areas to reach Fort Fridge. Every square you reach will be one of these four picks:

  1. Fortune - Draw a fortune card. Normally will help you advance a few squares.
  2. Misfortune - Draw a misfortune card. Go back a few squares or sent to the Milkatraz.
  3. The MasterMind - Roll again or lose one turn. Play a game of wits with the mastermind of Fort Fridge.
  4. Hideout - Saved from pursuit.

Now I don’t want to hide the fact that I have not even get out of the first area. Why? Hot Pursuit. When the securities of Fort Fridge ambushed you, you will play a game of Hot Pursuit. Essentially, you will maneuver the Adachi van by using mouse movement. This requires finger dexterity, which I am very poor at. I have not pass a single Hot Pursuit while I am playing.

Any time the Adachi family is caught, they will be send to the Milkatraz. There, they can serve your sentence (and lost a live), escape by playing a large wheel of fortune, or email a friend to post a bail (have not tried this). Normally, I will just test my luck and escape. Listen for some wonderful quotes from the Adachis.

I am really delighted with this beautiful game. Got to be the most beautiful flash game I have seen. So give Get The Glass a try, I think you will be mesmerised too. Oh yeah, remember to read the crime files, very humorous and authentic. Here are some more screenshots below.

Flash game of the week - Mass Attack

November 9th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in flash games, games

massattack3

I really like simple games that don’t require fast reflexes and excellent eye-hand coordination (I have none). Mass attack fits the bill perfectly and certainly very enjoyable.

The purpose of this game is to balance two sides of a pulley system. The game begins by having one side unbalanced by various sphere weights. You can begin to balance them by holding left click down on either side to inflate a new sphere. Then release it to drop the weight.

That’s all. The key to this game is to have a good sense of the growing weights.

I have only played through to the 3rd level. Each level increase its difficulty by imposing more stringent rules. For example, level one requires you to balance the scale with 3 weights with a maximum allowance of 5. Level three requires you to balance with 3 weights with a maximum allowance of 1. The game is not as simple as it seems. It get hard quite fast and the game is not forgiving in the latter levels.

The music is quite nice with a good beat, though don’t really suit the gameplay. Sounds to me like a remix of a platform game, not a puzzle game.

I have a lot of fun playing this game and I urge you to try it out. Found the embed code from www.gamecodecity.com, so you will be able to try it out directly at BlogMunch. How convenient.

Flash game of the week - Flow

November 3rd, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in flash games, freeware, games

flow1 Flow is a game where you guide your aquatic organism (I call it, worm) into the depth of its “primeval soup” trying to find food while surviving other great worms. To me it is a surreal game, where you really feel you are living the life of this worm creature throughout its life cycle. The best part for me is the sound effects and apocalyptic background music. All of it combine will gives you a truly unique experience. Based on a researcher (Jenova Chen’s) thesis, it allows players with different skill levels intuitively customizing their experiences and enjoy the game at their own pace.

Here are some screenshots I have taken for a recent game I have played.

As you can see the background gets darker and darker as you go deeper. The third picture is my worm versus the last “boss’. Cool, isn’t it.

The gameplay is simple. You guide your worm using the mouse left click. To go deeper, consume the red critter. To go back to a shallower level, consume the blue critter. There are attacking critter on each deeper level, so anytime you are not ready, just go back to the previous level.

Recently, Flow is being port to the PS3 platform with added creatures with different abilities. The key is it is played with the motion sensor of the PS3 controller. You will control the movement by just tilting the controller in the direction you want the worm to go.

Try it, I think you will like it. There is even an offline version that you can download. Treat it like the pre-cursor to Will Wright’s new game Spore.

Flash Game of the week - Avoider

October 19th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in flash games

Avoider

The first flash game is an extremely annoying yet addictive game. Avoider is a flash game where the main task is to protect you mouse pointer as long as possible. The main antagonist is a punk who uses all sorts of tricks and weapons to destroy or capture your pointer.

To do well in this game, you have to “die” a few times and learn all the tricks he can throw at you. So that as he brings out some weapons, you will be able to anticipate the path to go.

The annoying part is the smirk look on the punk’s face when he is plotting your death. The addictive part is you want to survive long enough for bragging rights. Yes, survive long enough, as you will eventually fall (or else I really suck in this game…).
